2 Timothy 3:14 (KJV); But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

WISDOM FOR GREATNESS

A wise child never forgets the womb from which he came forth.

As a child rises in graces that are deeper and greater than those of his teacher or father, that child must not forget his master. This is the wisdom that Paul teaches in our theme scripture when he says that you should know from whom you have learned. Part of this knowledge is to never forget who taught you.

I have seen many fall short of this principle even as God elevates them and grants them deeper access to Him. They shun where they came from and despise the hands that held them while they ‘breastfed’, ‘weaned’ and eventually ‘ate meat.’

This folly is reflected in the story of Hagar. Despite the blame that some may place at Sarah’s door, it was by Sarah’s permission that Hagar mothered a kingly seed.

The Bible says in Genesis 16:4 that when Hagar saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. Because she was now pregnant, Sarah became less important in Hagar’s eyes. When Hagar eventually fled Sarah’s retaliation against her spurt of insubordination, God did not coddle her about her misfortune.

In Genesis 16:9, the instruction to Hagar is, ” Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.”

The lesson to us is clear: you can never go far by despising where you came from. New births should never mock old wombs.

FURTHER STUDY: Genesis 16:4-9, Hebrews 13:17

GOLDEN NUGGET: You can never go far by despising where you came from. New births should never mock old wombs.

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this wisdom. I walk in humility towards those that came before me. Even as You take me higher, my Lord, You humble me and continuously cause me to give honour to whom honour is due. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
