HE IS RISEN

Mark 16: 9-11 (KJV); Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

HE IS RISEN

The resurrection of Christ is what makes the Christian faith unique.

This infallible fact has been a subject of dispute by many scholars and those that are bent on disqualifying the reason for our hope.

Is it such a surprise? Not necessarily. Our theme scripture is a testimony of this fact.

Even the men who walked with Him struggled to believe it. When they were told by Mary Magdalene that He was risen, they did not believe. These men had seen Him cast out demons, give sight to the blind, cause the lame to walk, raise the dead and feed multitudes on only two fish and five loaves of bread. He had spoken of His own death and resurrection to them but they had never understood what He spoke of.

His resurrection is the foundation of our faith. In 1 Corinthians 15:14, the apostle Paul says, “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”

If Christ had simply died and never resurrected, He would not have been any different from the martyrs in the many world religions.

If He had not resurrected, He would not have gone to the bowels of hell and taken captivity captive. If He had not resurrected, the purchase of our eternal salvation would not have been complete.

We celebrate this truth as the cornerstone on which Christianity is built. We are reminded of who we are and what we became because of His resurrection.

Hallelujah!

FURTHER STUDY: 1 Corinthians 15:14, 1 Thessalonians 4:14

GOLDEN NUGGET: Christ’s resurrection is the foundation of our faith. If He had not resurrected, He would not have gone to the bowels of hell and taken captivity captive. If He had not resurrected, the purchase of our eternal salvation would not have been complete.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. Thank You for the miracle of Resurrection Sunday and the infallible and undeniable truth that You died and rose again. This is the confidence that death has no hold over me and the reason why I live victoriously, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
