Apostle Grace Lubega
James 4:2-3 (KJV); Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES III
Lust frustrates prayer and any answers we seek from God. Any prayer grounded in lust goes unanswered. Like our theme scripture says, you lust and you have not. Every time you lust, you separate yourself from your answer to prayer.
Two people may pray for the same thing yet one is lusting and the other is not.
For example, a man may ask God for a promotion at his workplace so that he can find a reason to show off to friends and family; the job is his opportunity to rub his success in the face of those who thought he would never make it in life. That is prayer made in lust.
On the other hand, another man may be trusting God for a promotion so that he can be a blessing to the kingdom of God. He sees his workplace as an altar and an opportunity to preach the gospel in the marketplace.
The thing about praying in lust is that some people never even realise it because they are too consumed by their needs. They are not very conscious about the deepest convictions of their hearts.
However, when you pray scripture, it helps you distinguish purpose from lust.
In Hebrews 4:12, the Bible says, “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The Word causes us to separate our personal selfish needs from the needs of heaven. It weeds out the desires of the flesh and aligns us to the heartbeat of God.

GOLDEN NUGGET: When you pray scripture, it helps you distinguish purpose from lust. The Word causes us to separate our personal selfish needs from the needs of heaven. It weeds out the desires of the flesh and aligns us to the heartbeat of God.
PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. I thank You for the gift of the Word. The Word is the anchor of my soul and the object of my communion with You. My life of prayer is shaped by the scriptures. This wisdom aligns me to purpose and divine will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
