Matthew 10: 34-37 (MSG); Don’t think I’ve come to make life cozy. I’ve come to cut—make a sharp knife-cut between son and father, daughter and mother, bride and mother-in-law—cut through these cozy domestic arrangements and free you for God. Well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. If you prefer father or mother over me, you don’t deserve me. If you prefer son or daughter over me, you don’t deserve me.
SURROUNDED BY FAITH
Sometimes, the people who love us the most can be the greatest hindrances to our godly destinies.
Out of care and concern, they can counsel you out of the plans God has for you because they do not understand the journey of faith.
A man may be called to ministry out of his family area to a remote place that does not have the conveniences of his present surroundings. It may be his family that will show him everything that is wrong with such a decision. If he is unstable, he may listen to their reasons above the convictions of the Spirit of God.
Our theme scripture makes this fact very clear when it tells us that well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. They can effectively love you out of destiny.
I have also seen people that have gone to an early grave because of the love of their family members. This is usually when they are sick and dying and no one around them is ready to believe God for their healing but are happy to let them go, so they can ‘die surrounded by their loved ones.’
In life’s hardest moments and in decisions that pertain to God’s purpose for your life, you must have the wisdom to surround yourself with men and women of faith. Choose faith above ‘blind love and concern’.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. Thank You for the people that You surround me with, men and women of faith that remind me to stand and to stick to the course of purpose. I am stable in my understanding of the destiny that You have designed for me and will never allow to be swayed off my track. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
