2 Kings 2:15(KJV); And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

IDENTIFYING GREATNESS

The wisdom of God requires that you know the people He has set before you.

In our theme scripture, the act of the sons of the prophets in bowing to Elisha was no ordinary action of respect. Why did they not bow to him before but only did so at this point in time? This was because they were finally acknowledging the fact that in the things pertaining to the spirit, Elisha had gone ahead of them.

Elisha himself was once an ordinary prophet. In fact he was among the seven thousand prophets hidden by God. When he met Elijah, he was propelled into relevance in the history of Israel.

Lot would have lived an ordinary life and died in oblivion if he had not recognised the fact that Abraham was set before him.

Timothy would have remained in oblivion, unknown to the Church if he had never met Paul and submitted to his authority.

It was wisdom for Lot to see Abraham as being more than an uncle, wisdom for Elisha to recognise that Elijah was not just another prophet and wisdom for Timothy to see Paul as a true father.

The principle herein is that in order to be great, you must first learn how to recognise greatness. If you cannot recognise greatness, the extraordinary will remain ordinary in your eyes, the chosen will simply be the called and the master who ought to teach you, will merely be a colleague.

FURTHER STUDY: Exodus 29:29, 1 Corinthians 4:15

GOLDEN NUGGET: In order to be great, you must first learn how to recognise greatness. If you cannot recognise greatness, the extraordinary will remain ordinary in your eyes, the chosen will simply be the called, and the master who ought to teach you, will merely be a colleague.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. I receive it in humility, Lord and understand what You are communicating to my spirit. I know how to recognise greatness and how to respond to it. I bend and bow to this wisdom in my walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
