THE GATE KEEPER.

We live in a world that is threatening to waterboard us with information regardless of whether it’s true or false.

Everything imaginable is competing for our attention: from social media and its addiction-inducing algorithms to commercial products promising quick fixes and to political or social idealists hunting for a following.

Sadly, some people have absolutely no filter for what they consume and allow into their minds. They believe every piece of tabloid trash, deferring to every opinion on social media and experiment with every product providing a short fix to their various problems.

What a way to live!

The Hebrew word for “thinketh” in our theme scripture is translated to mean, “to open/act as a gate keeper.”

This reveals to us that THE MIND IS A GATE. What you let into it defines what you will eventually become. In fact, you are a result and sum total of everything you have let into your mind over the years.

Some people are battling chronic depression because of hours spent watching programs that chip away at their self worth. The tattered pieces of some people’s self esteem can only be located at the bonfire of vanities that is social media. Others abandon their faith in God and in humanity every after a news broadcast.

If your mind is a gate, you must take responsibility by paying very close attention to what you let into it.

Every morning, make the decision to stand guard at the door of your mind. Be deliberate about what you let in. You don’t have to be the dumping ground for every uneducated opinion; you don’t have to be the listening post for every form of slander.

Be selective about what you watch or listen to because you must be a responsible GATE KEEPER.

FURTHER STUDY: Romans 12:2, Philippians 4:8

GOLDEN NUGGET: The mind is a gate. Take responsibility by paying very close attention to what you let into it. Be selective about what you watch or listen to.

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this truth. I make the choice today to guard my mind. In wisdom, I take responsibility for what I watch, read or listen to. I study the Word more deeply because it is the greatest investment in the mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
