BEYOND SIMPLICITY
The devil can use ANY MEANS to deceive Christians. It is naivete to think that what he used yesterday is what he will use tomorrow.
As the body of Christ, God does not expect us to be ignorant of his devices. As wise men, God wants us to be cognizant of how the means used by the enemy change.
Take the example of Balaam. In the Old Testament dispensation, the prophetic unction upon this man is what was used to lead Israel into disobedience to God (Numbers 31:16).
In the New Testament, the tactic changed. Balaam is not considered merely as a prophet, he is considered as a doctrine (Revelation 2:14).
It means that by the design of the enemy, what possessed Balaam in the Old Testament now rests on teachers of the word.
The greatest attack on the church of Christ is an attack through wrong teaching.
1 Timothy 4:1 says, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”
Spiritual maturity therefore calls for the discernment of doctrine. No matter how thin the line might be, a student of the Spirit must be able to distinguish what teaching is of God and what is not.

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this Word. I know that we live in special times where the Word is freely available. Lord in these times, I thank You for a greater Spirit of discernment. I understand sound teaching and cannot be tossed to and fro by any wind of doctrine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
