Apostle Grace Lubega
Acts 11:26(KJV); And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
A WORD FOR MINISTERS
Antioch was the centre of much teaching. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians (Christ-like).
The commandment of Christ in the great commission was, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”(Acts 1:8).
However, before one can get to Judaea and the uttermost parts of the earth, one needed Antioch because it was the place of much teaching. It was at Antioch that we see prophet preachers and teachers who commissioned Paul (Acts 13:1 MSG).
What this means to any minister of the gospel is that when men are filled with the Holy Spirit (Jerusalem), we expose them to doctrine. They are taught the fundamentals of the faith, the doctrine of His grace, the person of the Holy Spirit and so much more.
After they are taught, then they can be commissioned to Judaea, Samaria and the rest of the world.
When men skip Antioch(teaching) and commission themselves as preachers simply because they are filled with the Holy Spirit, it means that they are half baked labourers in the fields of divine purpose.
By wrong doctrine, they may destroy not only themselves but many others.
Every minister must appreciate the importance of teaching and being taught. It is the first stepping stone of strong and lasting ministry.
Hallelujah!
FURTHER STUDY: Acts 1:8, Acts 13:1(MSG).
GOLDEN NUGGET: Every minister must appreciate the importance of teaching and being taught. It is the first stepping stone of strong and lasting ministry.
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this truth. I thank You for the opportunity to be taught and to be built into a minister. I humble myself under strong and sound doctrine and learn all that I must learn for the purpose of ministry. To the glory of Your name, Amen.
