Ephesians 3:16(AMP); May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality].

INNER STRENGTH

Inner strength is the cornerstone of progress and success. No man weathers the storms of affliction, withstands the sharp pens of critics, the lashing tongues of enemies and the schemes of competitors without inner strength.

A classic example from the scriptures is the story of Joseph: hated by his brothers, sold into slavery by his own blood, falsely accused, thrown into jail for a crime he did not commit and forgotten by those he saw as a ray of hope and escape from his misery.

What does the Bible say about him? In Genesis 49:23-24, the Bible says, “The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: But his bow abode in strength and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:).”

Joseph, despite all his pain and suffering, was a man with inner strength. It is this same strength that causes him to forgive his brothers and foster reconciliation.

When a man struggles with forgiveness, that is an absence of inner strength. When a person gives up at the first glimpse of adversity, that is an absence of inner strength.

How is a man strengthened in the inner man?

The first place of strength is in your mind and the power you wield over your thoughts.
A man is as strong in body as he is strong in mind. A man is as strong in character as he is strong in mind.

If you must endure the fires and floodwaters of life, be deliberate about cultivating your mind like a field, weeding out ungodly thought and like Paul says, “Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honourable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].”

FURTHER STUDY: Proverbs 24:10, Colossians 3:2

GOLDEN NUGGET: The first place of strength is in your mind and the power you wield over your thoughts. A man is as strong in body as he is strong in mind. A man is as strong in character as he is strong in mind.

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this wisdom. I receive it with grace and embrace it with enthusiasm. I am strengthened in my mind and have mastery over my thoughts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
